Rachael Arruda

Lisa Mancuso, BSN, RN, PCCN, CCRN, LNC has been a staff nurse for 30 years with experience in cardiology, nephrology, and critical care. She is a past recipient of the Massachusetts Nurses’ Association Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice.  She developed the Cardiology Collaborative Group at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.  Ms. Mancuso is also a member of the Nurse Practice Council.  Most recently, she has been a member of the Informatics Core Team for the Steward Healthcare Network.  This project initially involved the design, build, and implementation of the network’s electronic medical record, including end-user training and “Go Live” support. This group reconvenes on a regular basis for system upgrades.

Ms. Mancuso is the owner of Mancuso Medical Legal Consulting (www.mancusomedlegal.com). This firm provides review of medico-legal issues for attorneys and risk managers. She is an active blogger and a frequent presenter at various community and professional organizations on different healthcare concerns. She has served as the Education Chairman for the Southern New England Chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants for the last year.

Rachael Arruda

Jane Shufro, BSN, RN, CPAN is a clinically active board certified Post Anesthesia nurse with 30 years of diverse critical care experience including cardiac surgical ICU, cardiac catheterization lab and CCU, and as nurse manager in a plastic surgery office. She is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and currently is employed as a PACU nurse at the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner hospital where she has practiced for the last 16 years.
 
Jane currently serves on the Quality and Safety, and Pain Management committees, where she conducts medical record and policy reviews.  She is on the board of the MNA Congress on Nursing Practice reviewing area hospital policies and developing position statements to improve safety in nursing.

Ms. Shufro is on the editorial board of the Faulkner Nurse newsletter and is a regular contributor.  Her interest in professional writing includes being published in the MASPAN Mayflower, a chapter newsletter from the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). She was recipient of “Article of the Year” in 2009. Jane was chosen to be a presenter at the 2014 ASPAN national conference on the topic of “Anaphylaxis in Post Anesthesia: A case study”.

Jane Shufro is the owner of Legal Nurse Collaborative (www.janeshufrolnc.com) consulting with attorneys, insurance firms, and other legal nurses on both plaintiff and defense medical-related legal cases. She specializes in cases requiring surgical anesthesia, sedation and monitoring, pain management and rapid response or code events.

Catherine J. Brown

Catherine J. Brown, RN, BSN, MSN, ONC, CLNC graduated with a BSN in Nursing from Saint Anselm College in 1991 and an MSN in Nursing (Nursing Administration & Gerontology) in 1996 from University of Massachusetts, Boston. She received her Certified Legal Nurse Consulting (CLNC) Certification from Medical Legal Institute (Houston, TX) in September 2007 and her Orthopaedic (ONC) Certification from the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board in 2007.

Catherine is currently employed as a Medical/Surgical Nursing Director at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA.  She has also worked at Tufts New England Medical Center, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged, South Shore Hospital, and Boston Medical Center.  Catherine is the President and Owner of Brown & Associates Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC (since 2007). Catherine has been a Nurse for twenty-two years. She has vast experience in many specialties within acute care, rehabilitation, trauma, and long-term care. In addition, Catherine has greater than seventeen years of Nursing management experience. She understands the ideal (policies, procedures, regulations & best practices) vs. the real (staffing, competency, etc.) issues that may impact care. Catherine does both Plaintiff and Defense work for small and larger firms in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania. She is a true leader, as well as a strong patient and family advocate.

Rachael Arruda, R.N. is a Senior Nurse Consultant in the Stop Loss division at Sun Life Financial in Wellesley, MA. Prior to joining SunLife Financial Rachael was employed at Deluca & Weizenbaum where she performed in-depth medical record reviews in the areas of medical negligence, product liability, and catastrophic injury. Previous to that she was employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island where she managed the collection and submission of a data validation project to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

Rachael earned an Associate of Science degree in Nursing from the Community College of Rhode Island and a Bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College in Psychology. Her clinical experience was performed at a critical care facility and she has been performing in-depth medical reviews for over 16 years.
